The Decision and Planning

In August of 2021 we were driving home from a weekend of huckleberry picking and talking about dreams, goals and where things were currently at in our life. We spent most the previous year socially distancing from friends and family, working remote and homeschooling. Our home base was Missoula, MT and for the most part we loved it, but like many had cabin fever due to the pandemic. We wanted more and decided that it was time to make a big decision and sell our home to set out on an adventure opting for a different kind of life style.

That Sunday August 1st, we called our relator and told her what we were planning and asked for her help to sell our home. We had some concerns about selling do to a leaky basement, but because of the tight market it seemed like the best time to sell. We were in a good position as over the summer we had spent most of our time remediating the issues. We were able to put our house on the market the following Monday.

Missoula House:

The day after our house listed we took off to Park City, UT to see family and share about our next chapter. There were some questions, maybe a little concern, but for the most part a very supportive response to our plans of selling our home and becoming full-time RVers. Our thought was we could make memories now while exploring the U.S. At this point we had not planned everything out and still needed to find the right RV and a Truck. We figured we had some time to stamp out those details while our house was on the market. By the time Friday came we had multiple offers and our decision became very real.

When we returned to Missoula, MT we started exploring our options for an RV and Truck. We realized it was not going to be as easy as we hoped, but at this point we knew it was up to us to figure it out and make it happen. We went to several local dealerships to find a truck and was told it would be six or more months if we ordered one new. We checked out different RV dealers to figure out what the right set up for our family would be and knew a bunkhouse model was the way to go, but as we explored our options we decided simple would be best. We ended up deciding we wanted a Ford F-250 and and Airstream Flying Cloud 30' Bunkhouse model.

Ford F-250 (Blue):

Airstream (Tumbleweed):

Where there is a will there is a way, although discouraged at times everything eventually came together. We called every Ford Dealerships within 300 miles and finally found Blue our 2022 Ford F250 that was in route to be delivered to Burlington, WA. Had we not called when we did we would have missed this as their were several other people also looking for Ford F-250s. Then a couple days later we found the Airstream that was a failed sale in Boise, ID. Everything was coming together and now the focus was getting through the sale of our house, selling most our belongings, packing and picking up our tow rig Blue, so we could get the Airstream once our house closed.

It was a lot of coordination, but well worth it and we look forward to the memories and time with family we get to look forward to on our adventures.
